My First and Last memories of Ray were of him sleeping!! Let me explain...
The first time my now wife Anne (Ray's Daughter) Took me home to meet her family, My first sight of Ray was in his favourite Chair, Fast asleep. You see, Ray worked on the buses and I used the term "on the buses" as in the TV programme, which I will Explain later. He was fast asleep because he was on a split shift, which meant he had a very long day. As he woke i said, "Hi There!". In his confusion, realising he had just woke up in his own house, his response was "Who the bloody hell are you?!" Of course, in his own gentle manner. I Wont bore you with the rest, But obviously I ended up as his Son-in-Law which I think he approved.
Let me get back to my comment "on the buses". If there was ever anyone who could make a joke and see the lighter side of life it was Raymond. Anything you threw at him he would make a joke of it, and more importantly, make people laugh. They say some people light up a room when they leave, and some when they enter it. Not only did Raymond light it up, he set it on fire, With Laughter and Joy.
They say its not how long you live, but how you live that counts, and how you make a difference. Well Raymond certainly made a difference to many, And all you have to do is read the comments on this thread. To see just a few, multiply it by a hundred, and you will get the true picture.
I write this on the day similar to when I first met Ray. Except this time, I leave him sleeping. Instead of meeting him sleeping.
